I Have a Dream Chris Smith, Scott Academy, Ft. Wayne, In Grade Level: First

To celebrate Black History month my first graders wrote a few sentences about what they want to be when they grow up. I typed up their stories and then took photos of the students (using our school's digital camera) wearing a costume protraying their "profession." There were doctors, police officers, teachers, veterinarians, athletes, office managers, hairdressers, army men and even a pet shop worker! I printed the pictures in black and white and mounted them on black construction paper and then mounted it again on the typed description of their profession. I titled it "I Have a Dream..." I then added a few paper hearts. This was a real hit with the parents and we have received a lot of compliments on the board! The pictures will become a keepsake for the parents at the end of the month.
