Back to School : Best Thinking

Where do you do your best thinking?
Susan Robertson, Killeen. TX
Grade Level: Elementary GT

I teach gifted students in a pullout program. Each year I start out with a theme to welcome the students back. Since I am always encouraging them to do their best thinking, I ask them the question: Where do you do your best thinking? (The words of this board are not mine. I got them out of an article from a teaching magazine a few years ago.) When do you do your best thinking? I usually do my best thinking in the shower. Don't ask me why. Maybe it is the gentle splashing of water on my head or maybe it is the first time all day I actually have peace and quiet. Ideas flow like water but I never seem to remember to bring a pencil and paper. Could it be a pocket thing? The first day of class the students wrote about where they did their best thinking.
