Caring - The Heart of the Matter! Angela R. Smith, Counselor, Hampton, VA Grade Level: Pre K-5

Our school-wide CHARACTER COUNTS! Program highlighted 'Caring'. Each month, assemblies introduce and expand on the meaning of the character focus; and this bulletin board is in a prominent place in the cafeteria. In the assembly, a 'caring clown' (which happened to be yours truly) was featured in a skit which emphasized ways to show caring that did not involved 'buying' things; i.e. helping others, raking leaves, reading to someone, smiling. Students traced their hands in classes and some of them are featured on the left of the bulletin board which noted ways they demonstrated caring hearts with their 'caring hands'.
