The Day I Found A Magic Crayon
Staci Sharp, Kansas
Grade Level: Second

My students wrote stories about what would happen if they found a magic crayon and drew a picture with it. Where would they go? What things would they do? I started off by reading to them "Harold and the Purple Crayon".The kids came up with wonderful ideas such as drawing a picture of the ocean and seeing dolphins jumping, drawing a picture of money and being able to actually spend it, and much more. After we completed our writings, each child was given a paper towel tube. We used the tubes to make our own crayons!! The children covered the tube with construction paper. They then added the stripes to make it look more like a crayon. They were then allowed to paint their name on black construction paper in the middle to personalize them. . We display our crayons in crayon boxes which were made out of cereal boxes. When we are finished with our board, we take their writings and roll them up and place them inside their crayon. We get many compliments on this board!!!!!
