Penguin Sentences Melissa Smith, Tennessee Grade Level: 1st

This board is part of my writing center during my Polar unit. There are four cups on the table with cards in each one corresponding to the colors on the penguins' scarves. The students pick one card from each cup, put them in order according to the order of the penguins on the board, and copy down the sentence in their best handwriting. It really helped having the scarves match the color of each set of cards so the kids could refer to the order for the sentence. I used a blue background with penguin border. I cut the shapes for the penguins out of construction paper and glued together, then stapled to the board.
